GYPSY FOLKLORE PAGE 2

The power of the Onion is widely known in Gypsy Folk Lore.
Protection, Endurance and Strength are all attributed to it. Used not only for its culinary powers, it is also widely used in natural medicinal remedies.
For inflammation and sprains, boiled onions and their juice are taken.

If you are painting a room, place a peeled and sliced onion in the room, it will absorb the smell of the paint.

Old Gypsy Recipe for a Cold.

Peel and slice a large strong onion, cut across forming 4 rounds, place the bottom round into a bowl. Sprinkle bottom layer with sugar and place the next layer on top, sprinkle this layer with sugar and repeat until all 4 layers are used.
Cover the bowl (with the onion in) with another plate and leave for a few hours.
A syrupy Onion Juice will be produced and this can be taken to relieve the symptoms and ease the throat.

When the Onion is exhausted it will cease to produce syrup and should be discarded.
